The diagram shows the manufacturing steps of the five types of tea. There are five different types of tea: white tea, green tea, oolong tea, large leaf black tea, and small leaf black tea. All these types are from the same leaf. The only difference among these teas is in the manufacturing steps.
The first three stages of manufacture are the same for all five types of tea. First, the leaves are grown. Then, they are plucked. Next, the leaves are withered. The final step is also the same: all of the leaves are dried in an oven. However, there are differing methods between these stages.
To begin, white tea is produced with only four of the stages mentioned above. Green tea, oolong tea, and large leaf black tea are rolled, but the green tea is steamed before being rolled. Finally, small leaf black tea is neither steamed nor rolled, but it is crushed before being fully fermented. Oolong tea is slightly fermented, but large leaf black tea is completely fermented, like small leaf black tea. As a last step, all of the tea types are dried in an oven.
