The diagram depicts the transformation of the Lakeside area over the period from 2000 to 2009, highlighting significant developments in land use.
As can be seen from the map, the area underwent substantial changes, with the introduction of new facilities alongside a reduction in certain natural features, while some original structures remained the same.
In 2000, the most noticeable feature was that woodland occupied nearly 50% of the area in the Lake side , located in the southeast sections of the map. Besides, there was a river in the middle of the diagram, running through the area.
Along the river, there were several distinct zones, including residential areas, a derelict warehouse district, an old town, an arts centre, a school, woodland, a lake, and an industrial complex.
During a period of 9 years, this landscape had more significant changes with the introduction of a car park, office buildings, and a university. The woodland area narrowed notably in the northeast section of the map. Moreover, the original lake has been converted into a smaller pond. The industrial complex has also seen expansion that serve economic development. By contrast, the residential zones and remnants of old structures near the river still remain unchanged.
