The diagram delineates the intricate process of crafting Wesak lanterns, a significant cultural tradition in Sri Lanka during the Wesak festival held each May.
This crafting process employs bamboo sticks and tissue paper, culminating in the creation of a vibrant and decorative lantern.
Initially, the process commences with the precise cutting of 25 bamboo sticks, each measuring 25 cm in length. These sticks are then assembled to form six distinct rhombus shapes. Subsequently, these rhombus frames are interconnected to establish a foundational frame for the lantern.
In the following stages, the artisan proceeds to cut eight sections of tissue paper, which are meticulously fashioned into four diamond-shaped forms. These tissue paper pieces are affixed to the frame constructed earlier. To enhance the lantern’s aesthetic appeal, frills are prepared by cutting along the edges of the tissue paper, which are ultimately attached to the lower part of the frame, completing the vibrant decorative piece.
