The diagram depicts how a geothermal power plant makes electricity using heat from the earth. Overall, geothermal energy uses cold water that is heated underground. The steam from this hot water spins a turbine to make electricity, and the process repeats.
First, cold water is sent down into the injection well, which goes 4.5 kilometers underground. This water goes into the googthermal zone, where the hot rocks heat it up. The hot water is then pumped back up through the production well.
Next, the hot water goes to a condenser, where it turns into steam. The steam moves to a turbine, making it spin. The turbine is connected to a generator, which makes electricity.
After turning the turbine, the steam cools down and changes back into water. This water is then sent back into the system to start the process again.
