The image displays a three-stage diagram illustrating sand dune formation, accompanied by a legend and a caption. The legend defines symbols for Wind, Sand Particle, Wet Sand, and Dry Ground. In the first stage, wind transports 5 airborne sand particles, with 3 landing on a patch of wet sand that has 6 existing particles, and 2 landing on a second patch with 3 existing particles. In the second stage, the first pile has grown to approximately 14 particles, deflecting more windborne particles towards the second pile, which now has 6 particles. In the third stage, the first pile has become a large dune of approximately 36 particles, while the second has become a smaller dune of approximately 16 particles. The caption reads: '*Sand dune: sand gradually formed in deserts / on coast.'
Given the complexity of the image, the above description may not be entirely accurate.

The illustration shows the process of how sand dunes are formed.
In general, dunes appear when wind moves sand and drops it in some places. Step by step, the sand builds up and becomes higher.
At first, the wind blows and carries dry sand particles. Some of them stop on wet sand because they are heavier. After that, more and more grains are blown by the wind and fall around the first group of sand. Small hills are created.
In the last stage, the sand keeps collecting in the same place and the hills grow into bigger dunes. The wet sand stays at the bottom, and the dry sand from the wind makes the top part.
