The diagram illustrate the life cycle of a salmon fish, highlighting three main stages : fry, smolt and adult stage. In general, salmon eggs hatch in the upper river, fry salmons grow in the lower
river, smolts mature in the open sea, and adults
return to the apper river.
Regarding the process, salmon eggs hatch in the upper river with slow moving water and between Small stones and reeds. This stage lasts 5-6 months, and this newly hatched fishes called fry that measure between 3-8cm. Following this, the fry salmons migrate to the lower river with fast flowing water where they grow for approx 4 years and convert to the smolt with 12-15 cm length.
Following that, the smolt migrates to the open sea, prior the salmon migrates to the upper river, it takes about 5 years to mature and transition into the adult stage. At this stage it grows to a length of 70-76 cm. Finally it returns to the upper river to complete its life cycle.
