The picture illustrates the life cycle of the larva and the different phases in the production of silk fabric.
Overall, there are four steps to complete the life cycle of a caterpillar, whereas the construction of silk garments from silkworms consists of five steps.
In the first instance, the silkmoth caterpillar lays eggs; then, it takes up to 10 days for the eggs to transform into silkworm larvae. These larvae eat mulberry leaves to grow. Later 4 to 6 weeks, these larvae produce silk thread around their bodies. This procedure continues for 3 to 6 days, then they completely turn into cocoons. It takes 16 days for the cocoon to fully grow and turn into a moth.
In the first stage of the creation of silk cloth, the cocoons are selected; after this, they are boiled in water. Next, the boiled cocoons are unwound into a thread ranging from 300 m to 900 m. After unwinding, the threads are twisted and dyed. Once the threads are dyed, they are sent to be woven into clothes. Once weaving is done, the clothes are dyed; after this, the clothes are ready for wearing.
