The charts show the average monthly spending on childrens sports from 2008 to 2014 and also participation in three different sports.
Overall spending increased steadily. Football stayed the most popular sport while athletics grew quickly and swimming increased slowly.
In 2008 parents spend about 20 pounds per month on childrens sports. This number gradually increased to around 25 pounds in 2010 and continued to grow to about 30 pounds in 2012. By 2014 spending reached around 32 pounds so we can see a clear upward trend.
Looking at participation football was the highest during all years from about 8 million to 9 million children. Swimming increased from around 2 million to nearly 4 million. Athletics started very low around 1 million but then it sharply increased to about 5 million in 2012 and then decrease a little at the end.
