The two line graphs present the data of monthly investment of the parents in Britain on sports for their children and how many numbers of children participate in three different sports in a 7-year period.
It is clear that the amount of money spent by the British parents on sports increased gradually throughout the years. While there was a stable increase in the number of children participated in football and swimming, the number of athletes experienced a noticeable growth over the same period.
In 2008, the parents in Britain spent about 20 pounds for their children’s sports. This level inclined gradually from 2008 to 2014, reaching a high of over 30 pounds at the end of the period. At the same time, the participation of children in football remained stable around 8.5 million within the whole period, which was the highest number of participants, followed by athletics and swimming.
Despite the least number of participants in athletics initially at approximately only 1 million children, it rose significantly from 1 million to about 5 million within only 2 years, reaching a peak at this level, and remained stable until the last year. The number of children participated in swimming inclined steadily from below 2.5 million in 2008 to around 3.5 million in 2014.
