The first bar chart gives information about how many British tourists have visited the US and American tourists have visited the UK between 2011 and 2015, meanwhile the accompanying chart illustrates the expenditure of these visitors during the same period.
Overall, the number of British visitors in the US exceeded the American visitors in the UK in every single year. Both groups experienced fluctuations. British tourists’ expenditure was higher than American tourists’ throughout the period. Although both groups’ expenditure increased over time, British tourists showed significantly more spending levels.
Number of British visitors in the US was about 3.25 million in 2011, roughly one million more than American visitors in the UK. However, this number experienced a continuous decline for two years, three million in 2012 and slightly less than three million in 2013. In 2013, American tourists in the UK accounted for the lowest figure in the chart with 2.5 million visitors. Then, UK tourists experienced a significant increase back to 3.25 million in 2014. It peaked in 2015 with 3.5 million visitors, surpassing US tourists with nearly 0.25 million.
The expenditure of UK tourists stood at nearly four billion dollars in 2011, while US tourists only spent about 2.75 billion. Then the spending of British tourists increased to four billion and just over four billion in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Meanwhile, the expenditure of Americans declined to three billion in 2012 and 2.80 billion in 2013. However, it then increased to 3.5 billion in 2014 and four billion in 2015. On the other hand, UK tourists’ expenditure reached to about 4.9 billion in 2014 and accounted for the largest figure with almost 6 billion visitors in 2015.
