The bar charts illustrate the proportion of males and females’ involvement in four different home tasks – cooking, cleaning, pet care, and repairing the house – and how much time they spend on these activities every day.
Overall, while the percentage of women is higher in cooking and cleaning, that of men in pet care and house repairs is slightly greater than that of the opposite gender. In addition, these proportions show the amount of time both genders spend on the tasks.
Looking first at the share of men and women in house activities, the latter accounted for roughly 82% and the former make up 60%. The same difference continues in cleaning, with females leading with 62% and males represented 40%. On the other hand, men dominate in pet care, at 22% compared to 20% represented by their opposite gender. The gap becomes significant in house repairs, with males constituting 18% and females only 8%.
Turning to the average amount of time, identical patterns can be observed. While women allocate 85 minutes to cooking, men spend an hour on this task. Likewise, cleaning accounted for 68 minutes in females and 45 minutes in males. Pet care, in contrast, requires the same amount of time from both genders, 20 minutes each. House repairs buck the pattern, where men spend 18 minutes and women allocate just 5 minutes a day.
