The first chart presents data on the proportion of men and woman who take part in several household activities, while the second chart shows the daily time spent on these tasks by each gender. Overall, while the percentage of women actively engaged, men participated slightly less than the opposite gender. Additionally, both genders participated in these tasks.
In terms of cooking and cleaning, the proportion of women was considerably higher than that of men. Specifically, female participation exceeded male involvement by more than 20 percentage points, with women accounting for over 80% in cooking and above 60% in cleaning. By contrast, women were less engaged in pet care and household repairs. Their share stood at approximately 20% for pet-related duties and only 8% for repair work. Men, on the other hand, consistently showed lower participation in cooking and cleaning, remaining around 20% behind women. Their figures reached about 60% for cooking and 40% for cleaning. However, male involvement was more dominant in pet care and house maintenance, representing roughly 22% and 18% respectively.
Turning to the time devoted to each activity, the trends largely mirror those seen in participation rates. Women still take the lead in the amount of time spent on food preparation and household maintenance. They devote around 85 minutes to meal preparation and approximately 69 minutes to domestic cleaning. When it comes to looking after pets, both genders allocate an equal amount of time, with 20 minutes each. By contrast, men dedicate less time to both cooking and cleaning, spending about 60 minutes on preparing food and roughly 45 minutes on cleaning tasks. Turning to home repair activities, the pattern is reversed: men invest a considerably greater amount of time than women. Males spend nearly 18 minutes on these tasks, whereas females allocate only around 5 minutes on average.
