In the past, buildings often served as a reflection of the culture and identity of a society. However,in today’s world, modern buildings share similar designs and styles and cities worldwide are becoming more and more alike.This trend occurs as a result of several contributing factors. In my opinion,while there are some drawbacks of this trend, I personally believe that this trend is beneficial.
One reason for similarity in designs is globalisation.Nowadays, due to the advancement of technology ,people from different parts of the world are becoming more connected with each other and ideas and designs are spreading quickly across the borders.Architects may draw inspiration from similar sources leading to buildings with similar looks in different parts of the world. Moreover, economics also plays a vital part. In rapidly growing urban areas,there is a high demand for infrastructures and housing to meet increasing population.This often leads to prioritisation of efficiency and cost-effectiveness which means buildings are built quickly and cheaply using similar designs and materials to save money.
While the trend towards uniformity in architecture may have some benefits,it also raised concerns about the loss of cultural identity and diversity. Furthermore, when cities around the world start to look alike, there is a risk of losing the distinctness and charming points of the city which make them looking unique.
In conclusion, increasing similarity in modern buildings is due to globalisation and economic considerations. However, this growing trend poses challenges in terms of preserving cultural identity but efficiency and cost-effectiveness brings positive aspects to people’s lives.
