The pie chart illustrates the expenditure of US citizens in 7 categories.

Overall, from the graph we understand that food and cars remain at the highest proportion in both years. Additionally, food, furniture, and books decreased in this time period, whereas the other sectors like cars, restaurants, and computers increased.

In 1966, food and car percentages were about 44% and 23% respectively; however, the expense in food decreased to only about 14%, sharing the position with restaurants; although, the amount for cars increased to 45%, and both remained the highest figures in 1996. Moreover, the structure for petrol remained almost the same, from 9% to 8% in 1966 and 1996 respectively.

The amount for furniture decreased slightly, about 2%, from 10% to 8% in 1966 and 1996 respectively. Besides, the percent for computers was only 1%, which increased remarkably to 10% from 1966 to 1996. In the period of 30 years, the expenditures for books was 6% but highly decreased to only 1%. On the other hand, the figure for furniture doubled in this time period.
