The line chart indicates the global water use by sector. Also, the table shows the water consumptions in Brazil and Congo in 2000.
Overall, water used in agriculture had the largest amount than industrial use and domestic use over the whole period. Moreover, in Brazil, water consumption per person significantly exceeded that of Congo.
First and foremost, the global water used in agriculture was around 500 Km^3 in 1900 and reached twice as much in 1950 as in 1900. Since then, the water used in agriculture skyrocketed, achieving the highest point in 2000, at 3000 Km^3. On the other hand, between 1900 and 1950, the amount of industrial use and domestic use of water were nearly the same. Starting from 1950, the portion of water consumed in industrial use increased rapidly, reaching around 1000 Km^3 in 2000.
In addition, the water consumption in Brazil surpassed that of Congo in 2000. The population in Brazil was 176 million with 26500 km^2 of irrigated land. However, Congo had only 5.2 million inhabitants with 100 km^2 of irrigated land. Thus, there was a huge difference between the two countries in water consumption per person, which were 359m^3 and 8 m^3, respectively.
