Looking from an overall perspective, Asia, Africa and North America experienced an upward trajectory, with the former seeing a notably rise. It is true that South America and Europe saw almost no change during the whole period. Notably, Asia was the only continent who displayed the biggest change.

Focusing on increases- Asia, Africa and North America – with the former starting at just 9 million in 1980, a figure which went up to around 13 million in 1990, before it precipitously rise to around 22 million fishers by the end of the period. Likewise, in North America, the numbers of fishers were at about 1 million, after which it plagued to 2 million until 2000. When it comes to Africa, its figures stood at 2 million, a figure that then moderately rose to roughly 2,5 million at the end of the period.

Looking on the remaining regions, South America started the period at nearly 2,5 million, the shares which then remained stable at about 2,5 throughout timeframe. Similarly, Europe began at 1 million fishers in 1980, a figure which dropped to 0,5 million in 1990, before healed to 1 million again in the final period.
