The bar chart depicts the illiteracy issue of men and women in six different regions in 2000. Overall, even though women’s illiteracy was higher opposed to men in all regions, it was estimated that Developed Countries, Latin America/Caribbean, and East Asia/Oceania had lower illiteracy rates compared to Sub-Saharan Africa, Arab States, and South Asia.
Region in the first group (which predominantly low rate) has more illiterate women than men. The lowest percentage of illiteracy rates was just bellow 5%, occupied by Developed Countries; followed by Latin America/Caribbean which had just above 10%; and the highest rate was East Asia/Oceania which more than 20 % in total.
The second group (which has high rate) had predominantly more illiteracy people. The rates percentage in this group is nearly equivalent. Sub Saharan had more than 80% rates, followed by Arab States which just bellow.
