the bar chart illustrates the percentages of people including male and female who can not read and write in 6 regions on the world in 2000. Overall, the figures for female was higher than male while South Asia’s rates were the highest and developed countries had the lowest figures for both genders.
Looking first at three places which had huge gaps between the propotions for female and male, it accounted for a small minority, approximately 55%, for the figure of females who were illiteracy in South Asia, followed by Arab States and Sub-Saharan Africa with 51% and 47%, in turn. In contrast, a large minority of males in those country didn’t know how to form a letter, with the lowest figure recorded was Arab States – 28%.
Turning to last three regions, a small minority of girls in East Asia were lack of conditions to learn about letters, with 20% and just a little higher than 10%, around 11%, of this gender in Latin America were illiteracy. Similarly, males in these two-regions also didn’t have any opportunity to approach the letters with 7% and 10%, respectively. It’s very reasonable, however, for the figures of developed countries, where had the more moden culture and more wealthy, its rates were just between 1% to 2% for both.
