Overall, China saw rises across all three categories, albeit to varying degrees. It is also clear that mobile phones were a more common option for people than telephone lines and the internet.
In 1994,fixed telephone lines were the most popular choice in China, with as many as about 20 million people. This was followed by a steady increase to 200 million in 2000, and its dominance ended in 2002 and stood at approximately 250 million people. This figure reached 350 million in the final year.
In contrast, mobile phone users began at around less than 1 million in the first year, experienced a significant rise to 250 million in 2001, and overtook fixed lines at 300 million in 2002. By 2005, this category peaked at 450 million. By comparison, the number of people who fixed internet were the smallest number with less than 1 million in 1994. This figure also demonstrated the significant increase, and accounted for around 200 million in the final year.
