The chart illustrates the figure of net migration, immigration and emigration in the United Kingdom over a period of 9 years from 1999 to 2008.
On the whole, the proportion of immigration and emigration all increased but the figures for immigration were sharply higher. The rates of net migration reached the highest point in 2004.
In 1999. around 460,000 people came to U.K to live. Besides, only 300,000 person came out England to go to another countries. The figures of net migration was around 170,000 and it still remained at similar level until 2003. From 2000 to 2004, the sums of immigrants to England was twice as higher than its’ emigration, at about 550,000 and 350,000 respectively. Englands’ net migration peaked at 250,000 in 2004.
4 years later, the rates of people come to United Kingdom remained high. On the contrary, these of emigration was fluctuated. It went down in 2007 before reaching at 440,000. As the result, the numbers of net migration was increased to 220,000 in 2007. After a year, it witnessed a slight decrease to 170,000.
