The line graph compares sugar production and consumption in India over the decade from 2001 to 2011, with figures given in millions of tonnes.
Overall, both production and consumption of sugar experienced upward trends to varying degrees. The former rose with some fluctuations, while the latter increased steeply.
In 2001, India’s production led with approximately 18 million tonnes of sugar, followed by a gradual decline to 13 million tonnes in 2005, after which it increased to about 28 million tonnes by 2007, becoming the highest sugar output over the period. Within the next four years, it declined to about 16 million tonnes, before gradually growing to 26 million tonnes at the end of the period.
As for consumption of sugar, it increased steadily from 15 to 20 million tonnes in two years. Then it remained unchanged until 2007; afterwards, the trend saw a slight rise, reaching nearly 23 million tonnes by 2011.
