The graph illustrates the proportion of people paying a subscription per 100 inhabitants to two different kinds of communication devices in Africa between 1994 and 2004.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the portion of fixed-line and mobile customers over the period. In the beginning, mobile subscribers saw the lowest percentage, which then soared and surpassed the remaining to become the most favorite device in the final year.
In 1994, mobile and fixed-line customers were only 0.06 percent and 1,7 percent respectively. Then, the figure for mobile members rose dramatically, which reached 3 percent in 2001. Following that, having fluctuated, fixed-line members grew minimally and stood at nearly 3 percent.
After that, mobile customers experienced a significant increase and reached a peak at 8.8 percent in the final year. On the other hand, a controversial trend was witnessed in the portion of fixed-line subscribers, which remained unchanged and climbed gradually by 0,1 percent.
