Overall, it is obvious that reading is the most common bedtime activity regardless of age group.Additionally, watching TV and eating are among the least popular activities that children engage in before going to bed.
To begin with, American children are most interested in reading before bedtime, with 70% of 4-5 year olds and around 60% of the other groups. Furthermore, half of children aged 6-8 years old brush their teeth before sleeping, in comparison with just over 40% of 4-5 year olds and 30% of 1-3 year-olds. Additionally, 40% of the youngest children take a bath as part of bedtime routines. This figure is only 35% and 30% for kids in the 4-5 and 6-8 age brackets respectively.
Regarding the other less common bedtime activities, watching TV is more prevalent among children aged between 4 and 5 years old, at 20%, compared to about 15% of the other age groups. Finally, 20% of children aged 1-3 eat before sleeping, twice the figure for the other age groups.
