The line graph illustrates the amount of jobs in four different areas of the US’s economy in the years between 1960 and 2020.
Overall, the figure for manufacturing maintained its dominance over the period; however, by the end of the period declined negligibly. Additionally, the trend for agriculture experienced a sharp rise, thereby exceeding that of all the figures.
In 1960, the gap between the share of the manufacturing sector and other shares was significant, making up 15 million, and increased from 15 to 20 million by the year 1980. Nevertheless, its share decreased gradually, and by the end of the given period accounted for only approximately 10 million, thereby becoming the largest figure after the figures for retail and healthcare.
Comparatively, in the year 1960, the proportion of the retail and healthcare sectors represented only 5 and roughly 2 million, respectively. However, the figures rose sharply, forming 15 million, by 2020, becoming the largest shares among others. There was only one trend that did not increase over the period – the trend for the agriculture sector. It made up just 5 million and declined in the following years.
