The graph illustrates the number of jobs in million in four different catagories which contributed to the economy of the USA in the years 1960 to 2020.
Overall, the number of jobs in manufacturing sector were the higest till 2000 and by 2020, agriculture and retail sector became the highest in employment number. However, the number of jobs in agriculture and healthcare sector increased while a decrease observed in retail and manufacturing sector over the years.
In 1960, the manufacturing sector had the highest jobs which was 15 millions and this number peaked at around 20 millions in 1980. After that, the job numbers declined to approximately 14 millions by 2020 touching at around 17 million in 2000. On the other hand, the healthcare sector had the lowest job numbers (about 2 millions) in 1960 and then the figure increased by 2020. A gradual increase occured and it reached about 5 millions and 11 millions in 1980 and 2000 respectively.
Agriculture and retail sector had the same number of jobs ( approximately 6 millions) in 1960 and in the next years though the number increased in agriculture sector, a fall in job number was observed in retail sector. A sharp rise in number observed by 2000 in agriculture sector but in next 20 years the number increased steadily and reached at around 14 millions. In contrast, the retail sector declined to about 3 million and it reamined constant till 2000 and finally it became 2 millions approximately which was the lowest number in all 4 sectors throughout the period.
