The graph reveals information regarding the rates of the population in four Asian countries living in cities during the period from 1970 to 2020, and predicts the trend for 2030 and 2040.
It is evident that the percentage of the population in Malaysia was the highest and did record a dramatic growth from 30 percent to approximately 75 percent in 2020. What’s more, it will keep increasing to around 82 percent by 2040. The rising trend was also seen in Indonesia, where the rate of population living in urban areas rose from about 15 percent to about 50 percent, and it is predicted that it will reach nearly 60 percent in 2040.
By comparison, there was a gradual fall between 1990 and 2010 from around 48 percent to around 42 percent in the Philippines, before the rate saw growth from nearly 32 percent to nearly 48 percent during the first two decades. But it is predicted that it will recover to growth in the future to approximately 52 percent in 2040. The proportion for Thailand firstly saw a steady growth from about 19 percent to about 38 percent, and then remained relatively unchanged at around 36 percent; finally, it forecasts climbing to nearly 45 percent in 2040.
Overall, the proportion of the population living in cities in four Asian counties were all increasing in contrast to the beginning, and it will remain rising in the future.
