The line graph illustrates the proportion of the population living in urban areas in four Asian countries – the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia between 1970 and 2040.
Overall, percentage of city dwellers increased in four countries during the given periods with Malaysia and Indonesia experiencing the most drammatic growth. Another interisting point is that, Thailand showed the slowest rate of urbanization.
Looking at the details, Malaysia and Philippines had a similar urban population at around 30% and 35% respectively. Fallowing over the decades Malaysia’s population rose steadily at 75% by 2030 and it is projected to rise aproximetily 85% by 2040. In contrast, Philippines witnessed a rapid growth until 1990. ( around 50%). showed slightly decrease at 40% until 2030 and it is expected moderate growth by 2040.
In 1970, Thailand and Indonesia had a like city dwellers at around 20% and 15% respectively. Thailand and Indonesia’s population small increased at same figures under 40% and Thailand is projected overtake by to rise about 60% . As well, Indonesia is expected to growth at 50% by 2040.
