Art and crafts are the only activities that attract more girls than boys. The proportion of girls choosing art and crafts ( approximately 60%) is nearly twice as high as that of boys ( over 30%)
The graph illustrates the difference in the participation rates of Australian children aged 5 to 14 in various pastime activities. Overall, all children of both genders choose watching tv or videos while most of the other activities are more popular with boys than girls.
Watching TV or videos is the most popular activity among both genders, with 100% of children engaging in it. Electronic or computer games are the second most popular activity among boys, with 80% participation, followed by bike riding and skateboarding or rollerblading ( with over 75% and nearly 40% respectively). While girls’ participation in these activities follows a similar pattern, their rates are lower than those of boys, with around 20% participating in each activity.
