The line graph outlines the origin of air pollutants in the UK from 1990 to 2005.
Generally, it is noteworthy that all sources of air pollution witnessed a decreasing trend throughout the period, except for transport. Moreover, the figure of total air pollutants consistently dropped.
Examining the chart, in 1990, industry lead the way with the highest amount of air pollutants (5.5 million tonnes), significantly outweighing the transport and household’s figure. Since then, its index declined to 5 million in 1993 until stopping at above 2 million in 2005. Likewise, the figure of air pollutants from households started at nearly 0.9 million, it then slightly went down to around 0.2 million after 15 years.
Moving to the remaining details, it is noticeable that the amount of air pollutants generated by transport fluctuated upward from 0.8 to above 1 million tonnes. Finally, the total air pollutants category experienced a significant drop from above 7 million to nearly 3.5 million tonnes during the timeframe.
