The line chart illustrates how much oil was consumed by 4 different areas around the world between 2009 and 2030.
Overall, the oil consumption of the reported areas witnessed both increases and decreases. Specifically, the use of oil in the USA and Western Europe & Japan decline significantly throughout the period, while the figures for China and the Middle East have a slight rise. It is also important to note that the USA has the biggest data in the examined period of time.
Looking first at the declined figures, in 2009, the oil consumption of the USA stood at 9 approximately, while that of Western Europe & Japan was 4, less than one half of the USA’s. In the next 16 years, there was a contrast between the USA and the Western Europe & Japan trends, in the USA, the used oil saw a gradual rise and peaked at 10, and then it dropped significantly to 8 in 2025. Whereas, there was a slight fall in the figure for the Western Europe & Japan from 2009 to 2025, and finally it was forecasted to be 2 in 2030. The prediction for the USA is that the figure will remain relatively unchanged until 2030. It is also remarkable that the consumpted oil of the USA will be 4 times larger than that of the Western Europe & Japan.
Moving on to the increases, China and the Middle East showed upward trends. In 2009, China’s oil consumption was around 2, similar to the Middle East. Over time, both regions witnessed a gradual increase, with China reaching a peak of nearly 3.5 by 2025. Though it is expected to fall slightly by 2030, China’s oil consumption will still remain higher than the Middle East’s. The Middle East’s consumption, on the other hand, is projected to continue a steady rise, reaching just above 3 by the end of the period.
