The line graph illustrates the proportion of individuals sorted by four different age groups who went to the gym once or more in a month, from 1984 to 2003.
Overall, it is evident that the data for people aged 46 to 65 witnessed a downward trend, while that for the three remaining groups experienced a contrasting one. Another interesting point is that the trend of visiting the gym was more popular with people under 46 years old compared to older people.
In 1984, the share of people between the ages of 26 and 45 going to the gym once a month or more was 30%. This figure witnessed considerable fluctuation and stood at 35% in the next 10 years before growing to more than 50% at the end of the studied period. Regarding people whose ages from 18 to 25, the proportion of this age group went through a continual increase, surpassing that of the 26 to 45 age group, and ended at nearly 70%.
The percentage of people going to the gym once or more a month in the two remaining groups had a contrasting trend. While the figure for people older than 65 rose remarkably from 5% to 10% in 1994 and fluctuated to 20% in 2003, that for the age group of 46 to 65 saw a notable decline from 25% to approximately 12% after 19 years.
