To begin, in 1990 road fatalities in Canada, France and the USA accounted for about between 10 and 20 per 100,000 people. The figure from these countries outnumbered other countries such as Sweden, the UK, Australia, Germany, Netherlands and Norway.

However, in the next two decades the amout of road fatalities gradually decreased. As an example, the highest number in 1990 was nearly 20 per 100.000 people, while in 2000 it was 15 per 100.000 people. In 2010 the number of people who died after road fatality steadily went down to about 5.
