The graph illustrates the amount of goods transported in the United Kingdom by four different types of transport between 1980 and 2008. It separates the transportation on the road, in the water, through the rail and the pipeline.
As we can see, the significantly important transportation route was the road which grew steadily and reached its peak in 2008 with almost 90 million tonnes of goods. It was surely not the most but we can see that the transportation in the water was pretty important through the years. It remained the same for 12 years but after a slight decline in 2004 it topped at 65 million tonnes.
At first, it rail was more important than water but after 4 years it lost its importance and became the third one of the four transport. Through the years, it went down a lot but made it back to its original score.
Last but not least, at the foruth place we can see the pipeline which grew up to almost 25 million tonnes by 2008.
