The line graph shows how much money people spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.
Overall, Germany spent the highest amount of money during the whole period. It is also clear that spending on books increased in all four countries by 2005, although the patterns were different. Austria had the most noticeable growth, especially after 2001.
Germany began at about $80 million in 1995 and increased steadily to nearly $90 million in 1999. Then, it fell slightly to just above $80 million in 2003. However, it recovered quickly and reached around $95 million in 2005, which was the highest figure on the chart. France, on the other hand, showed a steady rise without any drops. It started at about $55 million and gradually increased to around $75 million by the end of the period.
Italy’s spending changed more than France’s. It rose from about $50 million in 1995 to $55 million in 1997, but then dropped to just under $50 million in 1999. After that, it increased slowly and reached about $60 million in 2005.
Austria had the lowest starting point at around $30 million. It remained stable until 2001, after which it grew quickly and reached about $70 million in 2005.
