The given line chart compares what amount of sugar agents (in 4 categories and their total) have been used in the U.S from 1966 to 2012. The units are calibrated in U.S Pounds per person, dry weight.
Overall, it is readily apparent from the chart that the time between 1996 and 2006 was the maximum US consumption rate of total sugar. The use of refined cane and beet sugars gradually declined whereas the category of corn sweeteners dramatically escalated and equated with the latter twice.
Considering the total US sugar use, it was maintained between 120 to 140 Pounds per person approximately, except the time from 1996 to 2001. The industries like Honey and Edible syrups were insignificant as they were slightly consumed by US people (less than 5 Pounds per person).
In the given study, people who used Refined cane and beet sugars residing in the US utilised 100 pounds per person then gradually decreased from 1966 to 1986. In comparison with individuals who used Corn sweeteners starting from not more than 20 pounds abruptly increased to 60 pounds from 1966 to 1986.Both categories continuously remained the consumption in between 60 to 80 pounds for the past two decades in the study respectively.
