The figure represents transportation by Americans communters each day throughout 1980 to 2040. And it also illustrates the average number of transport by car, bus and train.
Overall, bus transportation has declined steadily whereas car and train travel have dropped, peaked and increased over the years.
In the year 1980, four million Amercians depended on bus transport but that dependance has decreased siginficantly. Only three milion amercians communted by bus in 2010 and by 2040 a mere two million are predicted to use bus transportation.
Five million Amercians traveled by train in 1980 although by 1990, train transport dropped to 4 million before rising in the 2000s. In 2010 train communt underwent another drop before steadily inclining to six million by 2030 and is expected to reach seven million communters by 2040.
Car transport remained steady at 6 million communters throughout 1980 to 1990. In 1990, car travel started to climb and reached a peak at seven million in 2000. However, a sharp drop followed that peak, and car travel went back to six million travelers in 2010. Since the drop, car travel has drastically increased reaching eight million by 2020 and is predicted to reach nine million communters by 2040.
