Overall, grocery prices increased in all five countries during this period. However, some countries saw much bigger increases than others.
In 2005, the United States had the highest grocery prices at around 250 USD, while India had the lowest at about 100 USD. Germany and the United Kingdom started at similar levels, around 200 USD and 210 USD respectively. Brazil began at 150 USD.
Over the next 20 years, prices in the United States and the United Kingdom rose steadily. By 2025, both countries reached around 400 USD and 380 USD. Germany’s prices increased very slowly, finishing at only 250 USD. India remained the cheapest country throughout, with prices rising to about 150 USD by 2025.
The most noticeable change was in Brazil. After 2012, prices increased dramatically. By 2020, Brazil had become the most expensive country, with prices reaching nearly 450 USD. After that, prices stayed relatively stable.
