In contrast, the average time for Ford rose in the first period, before falling gradually to 21 hours by 2005.
For the first time, Toyota and Honda had almost the same number of hours spent at 22 hours. However, the time spent per vehicle in Toyota rose to 23 hours by 1999, before declining to 20 hours in 2005. In comparison, Honda dropped to 20 hours by 2005 after reaching a high of 24 hours per car.
