Overall, four car manufacturers improved their production lines. In addition, General Motors had the most significant improvement, whereas the highest production time over the period belonged to Honda.
With 32 hours per vehicle, General Motors spent more time than Ford (28 hours). While General Motors witnessed a slight decrease to 22 hours over the time, the figure for Ford reached a peak at around 31 hours in 2001 before declining to about 21 hours per vehicle in 2005, which was a third of its highest point.
In 1998, both Toyota and Honda took 22 hours to produce a car. Before hitting the bottom at 20 hours at the end of the period, Toyota’s production line experienced fluctuations between 22 hours and 24 hours after 1998, whereas the figure for Honda went down and reached a highest point of 24 hours in 2002 and plummeted to approximately 20 hours in 2005.
