The graph exhibits the change in Asian Elephants within nine countries namely Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and China between 1997 and 2004.
China and Cambodia are the countries which have displayed an increase in population from 1995 to 2007. The number of elephants has significantly decreased in India, Malaysia and Thailand. However, in countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Sri Lanka the population has only slightly decreased.
The Number of Asian elephants in India reduced from 10,000 to 7500 in 2007, a 25% reduction in population. In Malaysia, the population depleted from 3000 to 1250 in 2007, that is more than a 50% reduction. In Thailand, the population reduced to 1250 after having a population of 3750.These countries exhibited an alarming rate of depletion. On the other hand, China and Cambodia the population was below 2500, but they increased at a slightly significant rate in 2007, which shows that they are conserving the population and trying their best to increase the population. The other countries had an almost insignificant decrease in population.
