The given bar chart demonstrates the usage of various types of commuting to and from work in a European city in three different years: 1960, 1980, and 2000.
At first glance, it can be seen that only car transportation gradually increased throughout the period, while others witnessed only a reduction.
In 1960, 20% of citizens used buses as a means of transportation to work, but this number grew up to nearly 28% and then declined to 18%. In contrast, the number of private car users was the lowest in 1960, exactly 7-8%; however, this percentage rocketed to 25% after two decades and then again it sharply soared to its peak at 38% in 2000.
Meanwhile, almost 28% of people used bikes in 1960, and in 1980 the number decreased by 5% but in 2000 it dramatically fell to approximately 7%. Finally, in 1960, the most popular mode of transport used to travel to work and back was just walking, at 35%. Nevertheless, this percentage experienced a great slump and it collapsed by 17% to 18%. This tendency continued, and it almost halved to 10%.
