The line graph shows how adults got their news from four different sources in a particular country from 2004 to 2024.
Overall, proportion of adults who used news websites and social media followed an upward trend while percentage of adults who utilized television as well as printed newspapers experienced a sharp decline over the period. Social media users started at the lowest trend, nevertheless they reached a peak at end of the period.
It is clear that after rising significantly from 15% to 55% between 2004 and 2019, percentage of using news websites around adults became the highest figure in 2019. It saw slight increase to 58% and was over taken by social media users during 2019 and 2024. Social media figure for adults began at 4% in 2004 and this was followed by a slight rise to 12% in 2009. From 2009 to 2024, the increase became steeper, reaching a share of adults 63% at the end of the period and then it led to it became a peak of the period.
By contrast, the percentage of adults who used television were the highest level started at 72% in 2004 before dropping slightly to 68% in 2009. Furthermore, it decreased significantly from 68 to 55% at the rest of the period. The highest figure for using printed newspapers among adults was 55% in the first year given. In the next twenty year it was followed by a considerable fall to 10% in 2024 and became the lowest figure.
