The line graph illustrates about the highest percentage of Lake Surface covered by ice of the three of the great lakes in the years from 2000 to 2020. The two lakes, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, show the general trends with similar levels. While, the Lake Erie exhibits the different trend from there other two lakes. However, all lakes show a sharp decline in ice coverage in the year of 2020.
First, there is a considerable variation in ice coverage percentage of Lake Superior, with a 40% in 2000, high of 95% approximately in 2015 and low of 20% in 2020. Meanwhile, Lake Michigan showed a lower percentage of ice coverage but the changes are consistent in both lakes. The highest peaked covered with 80% in 2015 and low fell to 20% in 2015. The greatest difference was in the year of 2005, when the Lake Superior covered with 40% and the Lake Michigan with 30% of ice.
By contrast, the Lake Erie exhibits different trend in ice coverage with that of previous two lakes. The maximum ice coverage fluctuated from 90% to 95% from 2000 to 2015 and declined steeply up to 40% in 2020.
Looking at the graph, there is significant decrease in the percentage of ice coverage in these three lakes in 2020.
