The given chart compares several complaints in terms of the noise is made from four different reasons in Newtown city during the 1980-1996 period.
Overall, the number of complaints making by the noise from domestic and household witnessed a downward trend as opposed to an upward trend recorded for three other figures. Furthermore, road work was the main reason that severely affected the noise atmosphere in Newtown.
As can be observed clearly, starting at exactly 400 complaints, the figure for ”factories” increased significantly while the number of complaints making by the noise from domestic and household declined rapidly at the beginning. As a result, from 1982 onwards, the figure for ”factories” overtook that of ”domestic and household” before stabilizing at roughly 700 complaints. Besides, the figure for domestic and household plummeted and eventually hit a trough of around 100 complaints in 1996.
In addition, the figure for both traffic noise and road works shared a similar patterns, as from 1980 to 1988, both of them maintained unchanged before decreasing noticeably. In 1988, 200 complaints were accounted for the traffic noise figure, which was followed by a significant increase by exactly 400 complaints. In the same time frame, the number of complaints made by the noise from road works rocketed and peaked at roughly 1210 complaints in 1996.
