The line graph illustrates how many people participated in four different sports in a specific area from 1985 to 2005.
Overall, while the number of people playing tennis increased significantly over the period, rugby witnessed a downward trend in participation. It is also notable that rugby was the most popular sport during the first half of the period before being surpassed by tennis in 1995 and gradually losing its popularity to become one of the least favoured sports along with badminton.
Rugby was initially the most preferred sport, with a player count of around 245 players. After this, this number decreased significantly to 200 in 1995, being caught up by tennis, before falling dramatically to 50 in the final year. This change made rugby the least popular sport along with badminton.
By contrast, more and more people took part in tennis over the given time frame. The figure recorded an upward trend, rising consistently from 150 players in the initial year to approximately 230 by the end, surpassing rugby in the middle of the period to become the most favoured sport.
Both basketball and badminton saw a similar fluctuating pattern during the period. While the figure for the former remained relatively static, hovering around 75, that for the latter fluctuated and ended at around 50 by the final year.
