Overall, while the figures in both art museums and science museums increased considerably between 1991 and 2007. By contrast, the number of visitors to natural history museums and culture museums experience a marginal decrease. In addition, natural history museums remained stable during this period.
Art museums and science museums both showed a clear increase in the number of visitors over the period. Attendance at art museums rose consistently from about 100 thousand in 1991 to approximately 150 thousand in 2007, making it the most popular type overall. Similarly, science museums experienced a rapid growth, with figures climbing from around 70 thousand to 130 thousand visitors by the end of the period.
By contrast, the number of visitors to natural history museums and culture museums declined slightly. Visitors at natural history museums fell from about 80 thousand in 1991 to 67 thousand in 2007. At the same time, culture museums saw a decrease from 60 thousand to 47 thousand people, showing a gradual downward trend.
