The given graph illustrates information about female members of parliament in five different European countries throughout 2000 and 2012
Overall, the proportion of female members in Germany, Spain and Belgium were higher rather than in the UK and Italy. All five countries showed noticeable upward trend in female representation. Whereas, Italy showed the most significant rose, where Germany showed the smallest increase.
In the beginning, in 2000 Germany showed 31 % of female members and, Spain 26 % and Belgium 24 % respectively. Until 2004 percentage of Spain grew to 36% and Belgium to 35%, however, Germany to only 1%. After 2004, trajectory of Spain, which the highest in the rate, illustrated decrease to 35% by the end of 2012. Belgium and Germany, however, did not show any fluctuation from 2004 to 2008, after, Belgium sharply increased to 38 %, but Germany only to 2 % from 31% to 33%.
In the beginning of 2000, trends of the UK and Italy showed 17% and 3% respectively, and did not changed until 2004. After 2004, the most significant fluctuation was shown by Italy, which grew to 24 % from only 3%. Percentage of the UK’s female representation increase to 6% which consists 23% by the end of 2012.
To conclude, the most significant growth was shown by Italy and Spain decreased slightly to one percent after sharp increase. In sum, between 2004 and 2008 grew up to 20% overall
