In 2000, China had a significantly larger population, at about 1.25 billion, compared to India’s figure of roughly 1.0 billion. Over the following two decades, both countries experienced growth; however, India’s increase was considerably more rapid. By 2020, India’s population had risen to approximately 1.35 billion, while China’s had grown more modestly to around 1.4 billion.

Around 2030, the populations of the two countries are projected to converge at roughly 1.45 billion.
