The line graph compares the consumption of three types of spreads in grams between 1981 and 2007.
It is clear that butter was the most popular spread at the beginning, but its consumption decreased over the period. Low-fat and reduced spreads became more popular, while margarine changed only slightly at first and then fell.
In 1981, about 140 grams of butter were consumed. This number increased to around 160 grams in 1986, then fell to 100 grams in 1991 and continued to decrease. By 2007, butter consumption was about 50 grams.Margarine started at about 90 grams in 1981 and fell to 80 grams in 1986. It then rose to 100 grams in 1991 and stayed at this level until 1996. After that, it decreased to about 40 grams in 2007.
Low-fat and reduced spreads were first shown in 1996, with only about 10 grams. Their consumption then increased quickly to around 85 grams in 2001. After that, it fell slightly to about 70 grams in 2007.
