The information above depicts the population data of China and India from 2000 to the present, including projections of populations up to 2050.
Overall, the population of China was more than the Indian population from 2000 to the present, and is projected to still be more than the Indian population until the year 2023. At first, the Chinese increased at a decreasing rate, after which it started to decline and lower at an increasing rate. Meanwhile, the Indian population increased and was projected to increase all the way to 2050, albeit at a continuously decreasing rate, overshadowing the Chinese population by 2030.
At first, in the year 2000, the Chinese population was larger than the Indian population. The Chinese population in 2000 was around 1.250 billion people, while the Indian population was around 1 billion people. That meant that in the year 2000, the Chinese population was 250 million more than the Indian population. In fact, up until 2030, the Chinese population was larger and is projected to be larger than the Indian population. This is due to the fact that although both the Chinese and Indian populations were increasing at a decreasing rate from 2000 to 2030, the initial rate at which the Chinese population increased was lower than the Indian population, while the rate at which the rates of population growth in both countries decreased was about the same. This means that the Indian population and Chinese population are projected to be approximately the same size in 2030, around 1.43 billion people. This means that, eventually, the Indian population is projected to surpass the Chinese population.
After 2030, the Chinese population will start to decline, all the way down to about 1.4 billion people by 2050. Meanwhile, the Indian population will continue to rise, but at a decreasing rate, reaching a population of 1.6 billion people by 2050. This is due to the aforementioned decline in the rate of population increase in both countries and the fact that the starting rate of population increase in China is more than that of India. In fact, from 2040 to 2050, the Chinese population declined by an average of 80 million people per year, while the Indian population grew by around 30 million people per year. Overall, this supports the projection that from 2030 onwards, the Indian population is projected to overshadow the Chinese popul
ation.
